How to Set Goals You Will Achieve - 9 Proven Strategies

If you’re serious about making some positive changes in your life, then you need to take deliberate steps to make them happen.

And the more clearly you define your goals – and follow a plan to reach them – the more likely you will achieve your desired results.

Here are 9 tips to help you succeed in accomplishing your goals:

1. Write your goals on paper.
Take the time to write out precisely what you want to accomplish, and include any specific details. The more specific, the more concrete the goal can be set in your mind.

2. Visualize yourself accomplishing the goal.
Spend some time picturing yourself accomplishing your goal. Imagine how it will feel once you accomplish it.

3. Accept personal responsibility for your goals.
Plan on accomplishing the goal for yourself, and don’t blame anyone or any circumstance if you don’t complete it.

4. Be flexible.
Realize that some goals will take time to achieve – and that everyone will have some failures along the way. The key is to be flexible, and to get back on track as soon as possible.

5. Decide who should or should not know.
Tell your personal goals to people who care about you – and who will support you. Don’t share your goals with negative people because they might discourage you.

6. Create short-term and long-term goals.
Some goals will take longer than others to achieve, so make two category of goals: long and short. And set timelines for when each goal will be accomplished.

7. Set realistic deadlines for each goal.
Give yourself clear deadlines when each goal should be accomplished. Give yourself some breathing room, but make sure your deadlines are aggressive enough so you have to push yourself to get it accomplished.

8. Make sure the goal is something you really want.
Don't simply set a goal for yourself that sounds good. Set goals that you desperately want for yourself. This will drive your desire to accomplish it.

9. Don't underestimate yourself.

Many people don't create goals for themselves because they are afraid of failure. Don't worry about failure. Think positive thoughts, and don't worry about failing.

After you’ve completed each goal, make sure you reward yourself.

It’s important to give yourself incentives for accomplishing your goals because it will drive you to create and achieve more goals in the future.
