First Esthetician Training Program for Everest's Ottawa Market
OTTAWA, Ontario (October 4, 2009) - Everest College of Business, Technology and Health Care is now offering an Esthetics Diploma program at its Ottawa East campus. The esthetician training program is the first of its kind in Everest's Ottawa market.
The esthetics program lasts 10 months and focuses on a variety of beauty and health basics, including the anatomy and physiology of the body and skin, good skin care, nutrition, skin disorders and diseases, use of esthetician equipment, cosmetic ingredient analysis, facials, hair removal, makeup artistry, and business management. After completing the course, students are assigned 20 hours of job shadowing at an approved salon or spa to round out their esthetics training.
Mike Lacroix, campus president of Everest College - Ottawa East, noted that the esthetics industry will always be relevant.
"No matter the changing economic, political or social environment, people use spa treatments to relax and de-stress, making the Esthetics industry somewhat recession-proof," Lacroix said. "Everyone needs pampering once in a while, and offering this program helps promote an industry that provides an invaluable service to the community."
Esthetician careers have moved to the forefront of the health and beauty industry with a variety of specialized services in the fields of medi-spas, wellness centres, cosmetic surgery centres, destination resorts, salons and day spas. Students who complete the program will have the knowledge and skills for esthetician work in entry-level positions as an:
- Esthetician
- Salon or Spa employee
- Product demonstrator
Everest's Career Services team is dedicated to placing students upon graduation. Everest is owned by Corinthian Colleges, Inc., which had a job placement rate of 78.1 percent in 2008 among its North American campuses. In that year, approximately 30,885 students entered the workforce with degrees or diplomas in essential industries.
