Everest-Newmarket Prepares Students for Intra-Oral (Level II) Dental Assisting Careers

x-rayexam.JPGDental assisting offers a variety of challenges and rewards for career-minded individuals. From simple tooth cleaning to oral surgery and cosmetic reconstruction, dentistry is a wide and varied field — and the dental assistant is a key part of the professional services team.

Everest College of Business, Technology and Health Care now offers an Intra-Oral Level II Dental Assistant career education program at its campus in Newmarket, Ontario. This 10-month-long program qualifies graduates to be eligible to write the certification exam through the Ontario Dental Assistants Association (ODAA).

Two Levels of Responsibility

Everest – Newmarket’s Intra-Oral Level II career education program combines chairside assistant preparation with the more advanced Level II training. Chairside assistant duties normally include:

  • Preparing treatment rooms
  • Assisting dentist with the selection of dental apparatus
  • Preparing dental materials
  • Sterilizing dental equipment
  • The more advanced Intra-Oral Level II responsibilities often include:
  • Handling dental radiography and impressions for study models
  • Applying pit and fissure sealants, topical anesthetics and desensitizing agents
  • Tooth polishing
  • Oral hygiene and dietary instruction

Courses are taught by instructors who are former professional Intral-Oral (Level II) Dental Assistants. They know not only the academic side of dental assisting, but also how the real world works and what students can expect when they go to work in an actual dentist’s office.
