7 Jobs You May Get With a Law Enforcement Foundations Education

Law Enforcement FoundationsWhen most people hear the term "law enforcement," they think "police officer." And, yes, being educated in law enforcement has certainly put you on track for such a career.* But there is a lot more to law enforcement than working for a police department. Studying law enforcement fundamentals in school may qualify you for entry-level positions in a wide number of related fields and industries.

Seven careers that a law enforcement foundations program may qualify you to enter include:

1. Private Security. Today, there are a variety of private firms that provide everything from armored car services to corporate security. Combining study in law enforcement with military service or computer programming/security experience could make you a valuable candidate to such organizations.

2. Retail Security. Shopping centres, department stores and other major retail establishments all have a need for professionals to design and manage security programs to protect against everything from shoplifting to physical altercations.

3. Private Investigation. Although modern day P.I.'s usually don't have the wardrobe, lingo or swagger of a Sam Spade or Mike Hammer, there remains a need for detectives-for-hire to do everything from background checks to missing persons investigations and acquiring evidence for divorce litigation.

4. Insurance Fraud Investigation. Most insurance companies have whole divisions devoted to nothing but ferreting out false and bogus claims. Completing a college-level program in law enforcement foundations may qualify you for an entry-level position in such a department.

5. Campus Enforcement. With an academic background in law enforcement, you may be able to find a position with an agency that provides security services to college campuses and similar public and private facilities.

6. Conservation Officer. Conservation officers patrol parks and other natural areas to enforce environmental legislation, check hunting and fishing parties for licenses, advise visitors on safety regulations, prevent theft and vandalism, and otherwise see to the peace and security of these valuable areas.

7. Railway Police. These individuals provide security, prevent altercations and investigate wrong-doing on our nation's railway system.
