Although statistics vary by source, it's commonly believed that about 55-60 percent of the Canadian population holds a passport.* This compared to around just 30 percent for Americans. Canadians clearly have travel on their minds and, with two-to-three weeks of annual vacation mandated by law (depending on province), a good number of them thankfully find the time and resources to do so.
In addition to our country's many beautiful tourist destinations, most Canadians are within easy driving distance of the United States and its myriad vacation spots. (Air travel is certainly preferred for more distant American destinations such as Miami, New Orleans, Las Vegas or Los Angeles.)
Cruising is a favorite holiday choice for many Canadians, which is why there's often a large percentage of Canadians on cruise ships plying the waters of the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Hawaiian Islands.
As part of the commonwealth, Canadians naturally gravitate to English-speaking destinations like Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Ireland and, of course, the U.K. But Europe, especially the countries of France, Italy and Germany, remain high on the itineraries of many Canadian travelers as well.
